e46 BMW w/broken mech serp belt tensioner

My BMW 323i with 170k on the clock and a borked mechanical serpentine belt tensioner. I took this video after I removed the airbox, fan, and fan shroud to get some room to work. Sorry about the sniffles. All that hay really gets to me. icon sad e46 BMW w/broken mech serp belt tensioner

No doubt. I took it to a local indie shop and the owner said “Oh, those break all the time, and they usually affect other things. Don’t look into it too much, just bring it here and we’ll fix everything for you.”

    Yeah, right.

It wasn’t too bad. I believe it was Tischer BMW Parts that sells a replacement kit for it (~150 dollars IIRC). Took me about 2 hours to do, going slowly and needing to run to the store to buy a wrench for the fan clutch.
